Address: ul. Wielkie Młyny 16 , 80-885 Gdańsk

An interesting object of medieval technical architecture built by the Teutonic Knights in 1350. It has a characteristic huge gable roof. It was the largest industrial investment of Europe at that time. He served as a mill, a granary and a bakery. Currently, in its Gothic interiors, where you can see large mill wheels, there is a shopping center and the Underwater World. In 1391, it partially burned down. In the privilege issued in Elbląg, King of Poland Kazimierz Jagiellończyk gave the mill to the residents of Gdańsk. In 1836 the mill was modernized on the American model (turbines and conveyor belt were installed in it). The mill remained in use until the end of World War II, when it was partially destroyed. In 1991 archeological research was carried out in it. In 1993, the mill was converted into a department store. The mill was built on an artificial island created by the fork of the Radunia Canal. The building had 18 water wheels. In the event of a city siege and cutting off the water supply, spare horse-driven grinds were used.
