Its ceremonial opening took place in June 2006. The target place of exhibition of the collection is the Foregate Complex of Długa Street (the so-called Gdańsk Barbican). All floors of the Prison Tower have been allocated to the exhibition halls. The collections are of great interest to tourists because it is known how amber craftsmanship is characteristic for Gdańsk. The museum acquires collections on the basis of donations, deposits and successive purchases. The exhibitions show the history of amber crafts from the earliest times to the present day. You can see the deposits of raw material and its extraction, the history of trade routes, the tradition of amber as a healing agent, magic stone as well as research and artistic material.
