Address: ul. Ołowianka 1 , 80-751 Gdańsk
The Philharmonic is located on the Gdańsk island of Ołowianka, in the historic buildings of the former 19th-century city power plant. It was created in 1945 together with the City Symphony Orchestra, whose inaugural concert took place on September 29, 1945 in Sopot. In 1953, the philharmonic began cooperation with the Opera School and was transformed into the Baltic State Opera and Philharmonic for symphony and opera. The institution was then headed by Kazimierz Wiłkomirski. The philharmonic building was adapted for concert purposes by Marcin Kozikowski 'KD Kozikowski Design'. It consists of a main hall with 1000 seats, a chamber hall with 200 seats, two multi-purpose rooms, an exhibition hall, a hotel with 60 seats and facilities for artists. Since 2007, the bronze bust of Fryderyk Chopin, the patron of the Baltic Philharmonic, has been made inside the building. In the main concert hall are built in 1955 91-voice organs with 4 manuals and a pedal keyboard, which were moved from Lausanne in 2004.
