It was established in 1979 and was then a branch of the Post and Telecommunications Museum in Wrocław. Since 2003, it has been a branch of the Historical Museum of the City of Gdańsk. In the interwar period, the building was the Polish Post Office No. 1 in Gdańsk. It was here that the dramatic scenes of the Defense of the Polish Post took place. The event was one of the first incidents of World War II. It contains printed, manuscript and iconographic documents as well as exhibits related to defense and defense participants, as well as documents and exhibits presenting the history and achievements of Poles in the Free City of Gdańsk. It is a symbol of resistance to Nazi terror during World War II.
