The museum located in Hel, opened in spring 2006, its regulations were approved by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage Bogdan Zdrojewski on February 27, 2009. (there is a Museum with a similar name: Museum of Coastal Defense in Świnoujście - also supervised by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage) link = Wikimedia Commons has multimedia related to the topic: Museum of Coastal Defense The museum was created on the initiative of the "Military Monuments" section of the Helium Friends Association "- thanks to the help and support of the mayor of Hel and the authorities of the municipality of Hel. MOW exhibits its exhibitions in several renovated facilities of the former German coastal artillery battery "Schleswig Holstein", and at the restored by its own efforts stand No. 4 of the pre-war battery Heliodor Laskowski. In 1940, three 406 mm caliber guns were installed in Hel, which were made for German "H" battleships planned before the outbreak of the war and were called "Schleswig Holstein". These works, after the test shots were transferred from Hel to France, as a Lindemann battery. 406 mm guns are the largest in the world that have ever been installed in stationary batteries. Cannons of this caliber were also used, among others on American Iowa battleships. There were cannons of larger calibers, but they were cannons of Japanese battleships, rail cannons, works on tracked chassis or experimental works. Inside the museum's facilities there are over 15 permanent exhibitions, and numerous exhibits referring to the military history of the Hel Fortified Region, made famous by 32 days of defense in 1939, and to the history of the Polish Navy. The first of the buildings is a multi-storey fire control tower with a viewpoint on the top. The second object is fire station no. 2 (this battery consists of three fire stations) for a 406 mm gun. The single-level ground fire station consists of a barracks section for 88 sailors, a giant cannon and an ammunition section containing four hand-held warehouses - two missile warehouses and two propellant warehouses. On November 11, 2006, on Poland's Independence Day, the management of the Coastal Defense Museum adopted a resolution to give the Coastal Defense Museum the name of Commander Zbigniew Przybyszewski, the heroic defender of Hel, executed innocently in 1952 as a result of a falsified trial in a Stalinist military court. In 2008, the Museum of Coastal Defense in Hel opened a permanent exhibition dedicated to Capt. Karol Olgierd Borchardt, and he reverently recreated his apartment called "Seventh Heaven". In 2013, MOW received the sixth, last of the former Schleswig-Holstein 406 mm batteries in service. In 2013, a new MOW department called the Hel Railway Museum was opened in one of the ammunition stores of this battery. The museum is located just before the tolls of Hel near the railroad crossing (parking lots for motorists are located at voivodeship road No. 216.
