the baroque Catholic chapel in the Main Town of Gdańsk was built in the years 1678 - 1681 on the initiative of Gdańsk Catholics with the help of King Jan III Sobieski. It was built as a temporary Catholic chapel for the faithful at a time when St. Mary's Church was in the hands of Protestants. Built for the money left for this purpose in the will of the Primate of Poland Andrzej Olszowski (80,000 zlotys) supplemented by the king's donation (20,000 zlotys). The architect of the chapel was Tylman of Gameren, builder Barthel Ranisch, and the creator of the interior design was Andreas Schlüter.
