Address: ul. Długi Targ 43 , 80-828 Gdańsk

The historic fountain in Gdańsk was created on the initiative of the mayor Bartłomiej Schachmann. It is surrounded by a magnificent grille dating from 1634. In the years 1757-1761 Jan Karol Stender transformed it by adding a whole galaxy of sea creatures around it, and blacksmith master Jakub Barren completed and renewed the damaged grille. The fountain gained a richly decorated rococo style at that time. In 1927 the fountain was renovated. Damaged during World War II and then dismantled for protection, it was restored and restarted in 1954. In recent years, a modern water treatment system and water attractions with lighting have been installed. According to one of Gdańsk legends, Neptune contributed to the creation of the famous tincture Goldwasser tincture. Nervous about the fact that coins are thrown into the fountain, he hit the trident in the water and smashed the gold into small flakes, which from now on decorate the wonderful herb liqueur.
