One of the most beautiful lighthouses in northern Europe. It was built in 1893 and put into use in 1894. It is 27 meters high. It was the first lighthouse on the Baltic Sea using electric light. The lighthouse was also a tower of port pilots and had on its top an unusual instrument which was the time ball. By raising and dropping the ball every south, the captains of ships standing in the port's road were able to set the ship's chronometers accurately, which was necessary for the accurate positioning of the ship at sea. The lighthouse went into world history when, on September 1, 1939, at 4:45 in the morning, Germans launched a second world war with arrows from it towards Polish Westerplatte. In 1984, when a new, more modern lighthouse was created in Gdańsk Northern Port, the lighthouse in Nowy Port was extinguished, abandoned and forgotten. It was only a Pole, who was passionate about lighthouses, bought it from the treasury in 2001 and, after renovation works, made it available to the public in 2004 as a museum. Inside, you can admire beautifully preserved old historic optical devices and a magnificent exhibition of lighthouse lighting. The breathtaking view from its summit of the Port of Gdansk, Westerplatte and the entire Gulf of Gdansk to Gdynia and Hel is also breathtaking. In 2008, her famous nineteenth-century time ball was reconstructed and again indicates the time as in the old days. In 2010 she won the national competition of the General Conservator of Monuments for "Well-kept Monument".
