A monument in Gdansk at Westerplatte, at the entrance to the port, commemorating Polish defenders of the coast in September 1939, in the form of a mound, with a monument 25 meters high. The construction of the work was initiated by the Council for the Protection of the Memory of Struggle and Martyrdom. The monument consists of 236 granite blocks brought from quarries in Strzegom and Borów with a total weight of 1150 t and decorated with reliefs and inscriptions. The authors of the monument design, selected from 63 others, are: Adam Haupt, Franciszek Duszeńko, and Henryk Kitowski. The shape of the monument's shape resembles a chipped bayonet embedded in the ground. The seven candles at the foot of the monument refer to the seven days of defending Westerplatte.
