The reserve containing a large number of birds that periodically stop in this area, hence it has such a name. In the Gulf of Gdańsk, migratory routes of birds cross from Eastern and Northern Europe and Western Siberia to Southern and Western Europe, Africa and the Black Sea. It is a resting place for birds before covering a further distance separating breeding grounds from wintering grounds.
