The artillery battery in Redłowo is the best preserved Polish coastal battery and an excellent military monument of Gdynia, creating an interesting educational and recreational route. The battery was built at the turn of the 1950s to defend the port of war in Gdynia. It consisted of four positions for 130 mm caliber cannons, of Soviet production, placed on the edge of the current Kępa Redłowska Reserve. Three have survived to this day, for one has slipped from the escarpment to the sea. Cdr Zbigniew Przybyszewski, the hero of the September campaign, became the first commander of the Redłowo Battery. The battery, called by the locals "Departments for Crows", in reference to the famous, book and movie "Department of Navarone" is a major attraction on a Polish scale, because most similar facilities were demolished in the 70s of the last century. The facility was taken care of by volunteers from the Pomeranian Association for the Protection of Reduta Fortifications, and soldiers of a nearby military unit also assisted in its renovation.
